Discover the Charm of Jackson: Stay in a Luxurious Pre-WWII Mansion Ever dreamt of experiencing the elegance of a pre-World War II mansion? Now’s your chance—find out how!

“We anticipate many of our guests will be Jackson natives or alumni returning for homecomings and family reunions,” said property manager Ben Herring. The mansion also welcomes a variety of meetings and special events, with discounted rates available for non-profits.

While not a traditional bed and breakfast, the mansion includes a spacious, modern kitchen where guests can prepare their own meals or hire caterers. The grand Greek Revival estate features four bedrooms, four full baths, two half-baths, a grand foyer with “courting” alcoves, expansive formal living and dining rooms, a family room, and more.

The property also includes a separate mid-century modern guest house, a 50,000-gallon swimming pool, and a pool house with additional bath and exercise facilities—making it the ideal destination for a memorable stay in Jackson.

Groups of up to 14 people can now experience the charm of Jackson’s Belhaven neighborhood with a stay at the newly restored Kennington Mansion. Available for a minimum two-night stay, this grand estate is the latest venture by Ragland Hospitality Group, LLC, following the success of their first historic property, the Kendall House on Euclid Avenue.

Initially an experiment, the Kendall House has become a sought-after destination, often booked every weekend and for extended stays. “We’re thrilled with the response,” said property manager Ben Herring.

Chris Ragland, founder of Ragland Group, emphasized the broader impact of their work: “Investing in historic properties isn’t just about preserving bricks and mortar; it’s about investing in our communities, creating jobs, and offering world-class hospitality. With Kennington Mansion, we’re continuing our deep commitment to preserving Mississippi’s rich architectural history.”

The name Kennington carries a significant legacy in Mississippi. For much of the 20th century, the Kennington Company, located at 401 East Capitol Street (now the Heritage Building), was one of the state’s most prestigious department stores. It attracted shoppers from across Mississippi, offering the latest fashions, jewelry, gifts, home furnishings, kitchenware, and major appliances. Now, that legacy lives on in the restored mansion, offering a luxurious and historic retreat for visitors to Jackson

If you’ve ever imagined spending the night in a castle fit for royalty—or at least a home built for one of Mississippi’s most prominent and wealthy merchants—Jackson’s historic Belhaven neighborhood offers the perfect getaway.

The Kennington Mansion, located at 1020 Carlisle Street, has been meticulously restored by Ragland Hospitality Group, LLC, and is now available for luxurious short-term rentals.

Kennington’s Mansion is more than just a luxurious retreat; it’s a living testament to one of Mississippi’s most influential families. The original Kennington home, built in 1912, and known as Kenwood Mansion was disassembled in the 1930s due to foundation issues, with many of its elements reused in the construction of the current mansion, completed in 1939. The senior Kennington,  ran the family’s famed department store for over 50 years, spared no expense in constructing the new mansion, using reinforced concrete to avoid the pitfalls of the original home’s foundation problems.

The mansion was sold in April 1945 to oil producer Warren Reimers for a record $46,500 and remained in the Reimers family until 2001. Today, the mansion stands as a tribute to the Kennington legacy, featuring original oak wood floors, hand-printed Zuber wallpaper from Paris, and vintage décor reminiscent of the era.

Ragland Hospitality Group, in collaboration with interior designer Mary Sanders Ferriss Cavicchi of Ferris & Co, and marketing experts from the Tell Agency, has meticulously restored the mansion to offer a luxurious experience for guests. Visitors will enjoy secure, gated parking, and a short walk to the vibrant Belhaven Town Center, with its shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.
